Early Years

At Sorell School we believe The Early Years is a place where:

All children should feel safe and secure in their environment and develop a sense of belonging.

Partnerships with families are crucial to children attaining learning outcomes. Respectful and timely communication between staff and families is a necessary building block in these partnerships.

Social skills learning is a high priority and a continual focus. Some of the skills focussed on include

  • Independence
  • Responsibility
  • Care for others (and themselves)
  • Resourcefulness
  • Resilience
  • Cooperation - in small and larger groups.

Our Early Years team offers classes from Kindergarten to Grade 2, while meeting the needs of children from Birth-8 years old.

Launching into Learning (LIL) programs support families with pre-school age children and programs are offered by Early Years specialists as well as Physical Education and Music specialist.

Launching into Learning and Kindergarten programs follow the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia while Preparatory – Grade Two classes align with the Australian Curriculum.
Our students are supported by ancillary staff to ensure all their needs are met; a Speech and Language Pathologist, Social Worker, School Psychologist, School Nurse as well as a literacy support teacher work alongside classroom teachers to determine the most appropriate strategies to meet individual student needs.
Sorell School is a Learning in Families Together (LiFT) school where partnerships are fostered between families and school. Throughout the year there will be structured opportunities for families to learn about ways to support their children’s learning as well as open sessions to come to the classroom and work alongside your child.
