Stop Work Action - Bus update

Dear Parents

On 21 November 2018 I communicated what the school bus arrangements would be on the day of scheduled stop work action. This communication was based on advice we received that no bus services could be changed.

Further advice has now been provided by the Department and the following arrangements are now in place for our bus services on 28 November 2018.

  • DS and KL Little (Dunalley) unable to run at the later time – will run at usual times

    •
  • Seabourne Coaches unable to run at the later time - will run at usual times

    •
  • Wynyard Bus Lines (Forcett) first bus to run from Forcett starting at 10:00am, second run from Shark Bay starting at 10:30am

    •
  • Bill Free (Levendale) to have students arrive at school by 10:30am

    •
  • Tasmanian Redline Coaches running 2 hours later than normal times

    •
  • RB and SE McIntyre (Mr Mac’s) running 2 hours later than normal time

Please note that full supervision of students will be provided from 10:30am and classes will begin at 11:00am.

I apologise for any confusion that has been created with the change in bus arrangements.

I appreciate that there will be some inconvenience to parents and disruption to the learning program for students.

Yours sincerely

Stop Work Action Wednesday 28 November – Bus times

To Families:

On Wednesday 21 November I communicated to you what the school bus arrangements would be on the day of scheduled stop work action.  This communication was based on advice we received that no bus services could be changed.

Further advice has now been provided by the Department indicating that changes to bus times are possible pending the outcomes of discussions with bus contractors.

We will now talk to our bus contractors about what arrangements can be made for each route and advise you via Facebook and a letter home on Monday 26 November.

I apologise for any confusion that has been created with the change in advice.

As per my previous advice supervision of students will be available from 10.30am and classes will begin at 11.00am.

Stop Work Action

Dear Parents/Guardians

Public sector unions have called stop work action on 28 November 2018.

As a result of the number of staff participating in this action, there will not be enough teachers on duty at the school to ensure adequate supervision for students. Therefore the Minister has decided that the school will not open until 10.30am.

This will mean the following arrangements for the day:

  • Classes will commence at 11.00am.
  • Supervision will be provided from 10.30am.
  • Bus schedules will not be changed to support the late start to the school day.
  •

I sincerely regret the inconvenience to parents and the disruption to the learning program for students; however, student safety is my primary concern.

 Yours sincerely

 ATTENTION: IMPORTANT

Dear Parents/Guardians

STOP WORK ACTION – WEDNESDAY 24 OCTOBER

EARLY SCHOOL CLOSURE

All public sector unions (including the Australian Education Union) have instructed their members to attend a Stop Work Action Rally in Franklin Square, Hobart at 3:00pm on Wednesday.

A large number of our staff will attend the Rally and will require time to travel to the city in time to participate. Therefore in order to enact our duty-of-care for students we have made the following decision:

Sorell School (both Primary and Secondary campuses) will close at 1:30pm on Wednesday 24th October.

Sorell School has organised for the regular after school buses to collect students at the early conclusion of the school day to take them home. All bus services will be operating. Please see the school’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SorellSchool and Sorell School Schoolzine https://sorells.schoolzineplus.com for further information and updates. If you are uncertain please call the school.

If your child/children does not catch one of the buses, parents/guardians will need to organise alternate provisions of transport and care as required.

After School Care will operate as normal from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. If your child is not attending please contact Lady Gowrie.

Please note, other than our usual duty of care for students awaiting buses at the end of school for the day, the school will not be providing any care for students after 1:30pm on this day.

We apologise for the inconvenience that this action will cause families and thank you for your understanding.

Please phone the school on 6269 1100 if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours sincerely
