Dear Parents,

 

Further to information sent last term; Grades 3, 5, 7 & 9 students at Sorell School will be undertaking NAPLAN testing next week. For the first time, students will be taking online tests for Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy. The testing period runs from Tuesday 14th May to Friday 24th May. Please contact Mr. Trent Sproule or Ms. Teresa Spinks for queries relating to the Primary School or Mr. Nick de Tarczynski for information regarding the Secondary School.

National Student Strike Action 15/3/19

ATTENTION PARENTS/ CARERS

 

National Student Strike Action tomorrow 15 March 2019

 

If your child/ren intend to participate in the national strike action around climate change tomorrow, the rally will be held at Parliament Lawns in Hobart from 12pm.

 

Students will need to bring a signed letter from parents/ carers tomorrow to home group:

  • Authorising them to leave school grounds for the purpose of participating in the strike action;
  • Confirming that, in the case of younger children, an appropriate adult will be collecting them and the name of that person; and
  • Confirming that you (parent/ carer) accept that the school’s duty of care ceases when students leave school grounds tomorrow.

 

Students leaving to attend the rally MUST sign out at the school office before leaving and must have appropriate transport arrangements in place.

Information for 2019.

Dear Parents/Guardians, The first day of school for students in 2019 is Wednesday 6th February. At the beginning of the first day, we will communicate to all new students which class they will be in in 2019. If you bring your child/children to the front office on the day they will then be directed to the required meeting point. Duty of care for students starts at 8:30am. Home Group commences at 8:50am. The school day concludes at 3:00pm Parents of Middle School children. Please carefully read the 2019 Student Handbook that you should have received at the time of enrolling your child. The handbook contains all of the crucial information required for your child/children to begin school next year. It is also available on the Schoolzine app. This is where you will find the most up to date information. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school. The Administration Office will be open from 9am on Tuesday 29th January, 2019, for general enquires. On behalf of the entire school community, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Regards, Andy Bennett Principal SORELL SCHOOL LEVIES 2019 Office Opening Hours: The school office will re-open on Tuesday 29th January, 2019 from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm for levy payments, new enrolments and general enquiries. We will NOT be distributing Book packs prior to school returning. Class teachers will provide students with their book packs upon return. Invoices will be posted and payments can be made using the options provided. School levies and charges form an essential proportion of school income. All parent and guardians, other than those approved under the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) are expected to contribute towards the cost of their child’s education. The following levies for 2019 are listed below. Overnight camps are optional and will incur some costs appropriate to the program provided. Kindergarten $175 Prep – Grade 5 $225 Grades 6 – 10 $460 Year 11 & 12 Calculated on number of subject classes taken within the year Financial Assistance is available for low income families. Eligibility is determined by a means test. Please enquire at the school office for STAS application forms if you are enrolling your children for the first time or your financial circumstances have changed during 2018 and you wish to apply for assistance. For those students who were approved for assistance in 2018 the Department of Education will have contacted parents/guardians directly by letter.
