High Quality Teaching & Learning

Curriculum

Sorell School is dedicated to providing high-quality teaching and learning experiences. Catering to students from Kindergarten through Year 12, the school offers a diverse range of curriculum opportunities. Sorell School implements four distinct curriculums:

  • Early Years Learning Framework: For Launching into Learning and Kindergarten.
  • Australian Curriculum: For Preparatory to Year 10.
  • TASC (Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification): For Years 11 and 12.
  • VET (Vocational Education and Training): For Years 11 and 12.

Cognitive Load Theory

Our instructional decisions at Sorell School are constructed to optimise cognitive load for students. This allows them to focus on the intended learning, without being distracted by redundant information.

Common Instructional Model

Our Common Instructional Model (CIM) is constructed with explicit, direct instruction pedagogies to maximise student learning. As research evidence (AERO, 2023) has consistently shown, novice learners acquire knowledge much more effectively through explicit teaching. It benefits all students, including those with additional learning needs.

Our Common Instructional Model allows every student to experience the same learning routine regardless of year group or curriculum area.
